National Assessments

The National Curriculum and the Programmes of Study provide the backbone of our formative assessment framework. This involves the following National assessment expectations:

EYFS profile (Reception children)
– submitted in June

Year 1 Phonics Screening Check (Year 1 pupils)
We are required to administer a phonics screening check to children in Year 1. This takes place over the course of a week in June.

Multiplication Times Tables Test - MTC (Year 4 pupils)
The purpose of the MTC is to make sure the times tables knowledge is at the expected level.

Key Stage 2 Assessment (Year 6 pupils)

Ofsted success at St. Michael’s School

St. Michael’s CE Primary school in Apton Road is delighted that a recent inspection by Ofsted found that ‘pupils are proud to attend this school and they show self-assurance that stems from feeling happy and secure’. The inspector considered that the school had effectively maintained standards and that pupils can ‘make the most of their learning opportunities’ and ‘achieve well’. The inspector noted that the children showed a ‘consideration for others’ which, ‘combined with the caring staff, fosters a strong sense of community.

School Closure Notification System

In the event of severe weather, a public emergency or unforeseen circumstances, it may be necessary for a school to close or partially close.

In order to ensure parents and guardians are informed as quickly as possible of anything that may have an impact on a normal school day, this notification system has been put in place to enable messages from schools to be sent immediately via our Arbor MIS system.

Please do share this information with one another via the class What’s App groups as well to ensure the message reaches everyone in a timely manner.

Wraparound care

We provide a wraparound child care scheme for children between the ages of 3 and 11 in the form of term-time only Breakfast (from 7.30am) and After School Clubs (until 6om). Both clubs are held on the school site, run under the direction of the school governors and the headteacher and are managed by school appointed staff.

We will always try and accommodate all ad hoc bookings and parents have the option to book a place up until 8 hours before the club begins via Arbor. Later bookings will need to be made directly with the school office.

OFSTED 2025

Pupils are self-confident. This comes from their ability to understand themselves and others. They learn to recognise different feelings, which enables them to respond appropriately. Pupils understand how to manage minor fallouts. However, staff members are always available to provide support if needed. Additionally, pupils learn about our diverse world and celebrate the differences that make us unique. This helps to create a harmonious school environment.
