High Quality P.E. Plan - including Use of School Sport Premium Funding

At St Michael’s we aim to:

  • offer high quality Physical Education for all
  • promote healthy active lifestyles
  • encourage participation in competitive school sport
  • link the above 3 points as detailed in the following ‘Youth Sport Trust’ model:

To enable us to meet the above aims we will deliver a high quality P.E. programme that will develop

  • Physical literacy and self-expression
  • The understanding and application of a healthy lifestyle
  • Concepts of fair play and respect
  • Participation in competitive sport in school and clubs

Action to enable us to achieve the high quality P.E. programme will include

  • Appointment of a P.E. Subject Leader to coordinate and evaluate provision and impact
  • Provision of age-appropriate curriculum time for P.E. with excellent teaching and coaching
  • A good variety of extra-curricular activities for a wide age range
  • Involve pupils in the teaching and learning process
  • Membership of the local schools sports partnership including participation in competitive tournaments
  • Proactive links with local sports clubs
  • Targeted use of the Sports Premium
  • Association with the Youth Sport Trust and Sainsbury’s School games initiative

Impact and sustainability


P.E. Specialist Teacher
Company: Rising Stars Multi-Sports Ltd

All class teachers to be involved in the Rising Stars CPD programme. 2 or 3 PE lessons each half term to be taught jointly, increasingly led by staff and feedback given.
Access to planning, games, lesson ideas and assessment tools online.
Possible INSET half day to be run by Rising Stars for the Autumn Term 2016/17

Coaching provides specialist knowledge and understanding of a wide range of sports.
Teachers gaining continued professional development by being involved in the structured programme.
Teachers have lesson plans, assessment and follow up work for other PE lessons building on the lessons taught by Rising Stars during the Monday coaching sessions. Sustaining high quality teaching and learning in PE and teacher confidence and competence. Half termly assessments to be completed using the non-core subject assessment formats (on Staff Share) using assessments provided by Rising Stars and teacher assessments.

Pupils can be involved in PE at all ability levels and can be leaders, time keepers, coaches.
Pupils leading sessions means some children feel able to participate and choose to join in with games that they would otherwise not play during break times.

PE lessons from Rising Stars planned with differentiation for SEN and less active children.

Subject Leader knowledge is increased and developed allowing them to better lead the subject in school and understand its importance in the curriculum.
High quality PE is sustained and developed as part of the SIP on an on-going basis.
Class teachers to attend coaching INSET for sports taught for their age groups for example Hi5 Netball for Year 5 etc.

Maths of the Day online resource

Maths of the Day is a creative and innovative online learning resource providing lesson plans for ‘Active Maths’.

This resource is endorsed by Baroness Campbell who feels this resource “will improve the health of young people as well as their maths and academic achievement.”

We are part of a local Maths of the Day HUB which has benefited from a discount in cost and working in partnership with other schools.
